Why I’m Ditching Resolutions in 2025

Hello, Possibility Seekers!

It’s 2025—can you believe it? Another new year, another chance to reflect, reset, and reimagine what’s possible. But let me tell you a little secret: I’ve had it with New Year’s resolutions. Yep, I’m officially done. Why? Because they don’t work.

You know how it goes: you promise to hit the gym five days a week, swear off carbs, or vow to meditate every day… only to abandon those lofty goals by mid-January (if not sooner). Sound familiar? You’re not alone. Research shows we’re more likely to break promises to ourselves than to anyone else. So why do we keep setting ourselves up for disappointment?

This year, I’m taking a different approach. I call it the Anti-Resolution Method, and it’s all about building on what’s already working instead of trying to overhaul your entire life. Let me explain.

Step 1: Take Inventory

Before you start chasing new goals, take a moment to celebrate the wins you’ve already had. Look back at the past year and ask yourself:

  • What lit you up?
  • What made you feel alive?
  • What are you most proud of?

Dig into your camera roll, scroll through your calendar, and jot down the highlights. Maybe it was spending quality time with family, finally nailing that work presentation, or finding moments to walk in nature. Whatever it is, write it down. These are your building blocks for the year ahead.

Step 2: Visualize Your Future

Here’s the fun part: create a vision board. (Yes, even if you think it’s cheesy.) For the first time in years, I’m making a physical vision board to keep my goals top of mind. Think about it—wouldn’t it be great to have a visual reminder of what you’re working toward every single day?

Your vision board doesn’t have to be elaborate. It could include:

  • Photos of places you want to travel to
  • Images of you doing the things you want to keep doing (or get better at)
  • Words or phrases that represent your personal and professional goals

This isn’t just about work goals—think big and broad. Consider categories like health, relationships, personal growth, and even FUN. Yes, fun gets its own category because life isn’t just about ticking off to-do lists. (Take that, Type A personalities!)

Step 3: Make Small Tweaks

Resolutions often feel overwhelming because they’re so rigid. Instead, focus on small tweaks that fit seamlessly into your life. For example:

  • Spend 15 fewer minutes on social media at night so you can get to bed earlier
  • Commit to one extra walk each week
  • Replace a weekly takeout meal with a homemade dinner

Small changes compound over time, like interest in a savings account. (I know you love a good metaphor.) The key is consistency. Life is simple, but it’s not always easy. By tweaking what’s already working, you can create sustainable habits that lead to big results.

Step 4: Write It Down

Here’s the kicker: if you write down your goals, you’re three times more likely to achieve them. It doesn’t have to be fancy. Jot them in a notebook, pin them to your wall, or stick them on your fridge. The act of writing makes your intentions real.

Step 5: Protect Your Time

Time is the only currency you spend without knowing your balance. (I wish I’d come up with that line, but I’m borrowing it from someone wise.) The point is: we don’t get more of it, so spend it wisely. Use your inventory to prioritize what matters most—whether it’s spending time with loved ones, learning something new, or simply giving yourself more space to breathe.

A Final Word

If there’s one thing I’ve learned, it’s that life is all about perspective. The same glass of water can be half full or half empty—it’s your choice how you see it. So let’s choose gratitude, simplicity, and progress over perfection.

You’re already doing so many things right. Celebrate that. Build on it. And don’t forget to take care of YOU along the way.

Let’s make 2025 phenomenal together.

With love and gratitude,
